Today we celebrate International Day of the Book! World Book Day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading. At Fundamaya we love to encourage our students to read.
We are also grateful for the support that has made it possible for us to open The Gabby Lewis Memorial Library in Tierra Linda.
This library was opened in honor of 8-year-old Gabby Lewis who was born in Guatemala. She was adopted as a baby and went to live with her adoring family in the USA. Tragically Gabby was killed in a car accident. The Lewis family has funded the library in Gabby's honor. We invite people who share our love of reading and who would like to make more books available for children to donate $15 US for a book for the library.
To donate please go to https://www.fundamaya.org/donate-to-fundamaya and note Books on your donation. For Canadian donors it is $20 CAD please go to https://www.fundamayacanada.ca/donate Thank you so much!
