Fundamaya (Fundación Familia Maya) began as a simple, shared dream—a dream held by a small group of indigenous Guatemalan, Australian, and American friends who could not ignore the struggles they saw around them. We wanted to make a difference, even if it was one family at a time. Over the years, that dream has only grown stronger, rooted deeply in the communities we now proudly call home.
From the very start, it mattered to all of us that Fundamaya be, at its heart, a Guatemalan organization. This land, these people, their hopes and traditions—this is where the soul of our work lives.
We are grateful for the partnership, guidance, and unwavering dedication of so many friends from other countries—especially two of our founders, Sharon and Dwight.
This is, and has always been, a story of Maya helping Maya—neighbors lifting neighbors, communities strengthening communities, and love growing from the very soil where it was first planted.
