Fundamaya (Fundación Familia Maya) began as a simple, shared dream—a dream held by a small group of indigenous Guatemalan, Australian, and American friends who could not ignore the struggles unfolding around them. We believed that change was possible, even if it began with supporting just one family at a time. Over the years, that dream has grown stronger, taking root in the communities we now proudly call home.
From the beginning, it was essential that Fundamaya remain, at its core, a Guatemalan organization. This land, its people, their traditions, and their hopes are the heart and soul of our work.
We are deeply grateful for the partnership, guidance, and steadfast commitment of friends from many countries, especially two of our founders, Sharon and Dwight, whose support has helped strengthen and sustain our mission.
Fundamaya is, and has always been, a story of Maya helping Maya—neighbors supporting neighbors, communities uplifting one another, and hope growing from the very soil where it was first planted.
